allGLAMMEDup: Spring 2011 Trends

Spring 2011 Trends

As spring is approaching, new trends are emerging: some practical and predictable, but others, unexpected and out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, these are the top seven trends of Spring 2011.

Bold Colors

Spring 2011 is not about soft, pastel hues; it’s about bolder colors! Pair colors with either opposites, or colors within the same color scheme. Some examples include turquoise and taxi cab yellow, lime green and emerald green and cobalt blue and neon pink. But the two most popular colors for spring are coral and turquoise. Ayeyi Aboagye says, “I'm definitely one for bold, bright colors. It's a great way to make a statement without going too over the top!” You can pair them or wear them with neutrals. You could also wear all white, which is another Spring 2011 trend, and accessorize with a coral or turquoise color bag. Either way, you can make a statement with any of these bold colors. But remember! Too many bold colors can make you look uncoordinated and clownish. So, when sporting this look, keep the hair and makeup simple with a slicked back ponytail and nude lips.

Lace

Lace gives a feminine touch to anything, specifically tight lace. Lace is on everything from shift dresses to blouses, mini skirts to tank tops. Keep the colors neutral–white, black, nude or gray. Other colors, such as hot pink or light purple, can make the item of clothing look cheap. As far as makeup, you can keep it simple, or go all out with smoky eyes and nude lips, or bold lips and simple eyes.

Nautical

Nautical includes bold stripes, as well as the colors red, white, black, navy, blue, and lime green. Wear a bold, navy and white striped tunic with a lime green tank underneath as a color accent. Pair these with some white, loose, linen trousers. This look is simple, casual and chic.

Prints

Another new trend this spring is to combine prints in one outfit. But the tricky parts are keeping the base color of both prints the same color, keeping the same theme, and staying in the same color scheme. Some popular prints of the season are florals, animal prints, abstract, stripes, and so on. One suggestion is to have one big print, and one small print. This way, they will not be competing against each other for attention, which would make an outfit look messy.

White Out

Layer white, on white, on white, on white. It doesn’t matter what your style is, you can make it work, as long as you wear something that flatters your figure. For this trend, you do not need to add anything but white; you can white yourself out from head to toe, although metallics go very well with this trend.

Modern Metallics

Unlike the metallic trends in the past, the Spring 2011 metallic trend is not edgy. Stay far away from tight, structured and heavy fabrics, but stick to flowy and light fabrics. The flowy fabrics give a more casual look, rather than a sexy, clubbing look. Steer clear from bronze and gold, but instead wear silver or pewter tones. This trend is a no-color zone, except for white and neutrals. Sisi Zhang thinks “the metallic trend is a great way to glam up spring’s usual soft feminine look.” Keep the hair simple, and add a hint of glitter to your eyes.

70’s Inspired

This seems shocking, but the seventies retro trend has come back. This includes: filmy halters, jumpsuits, maxi dresses and skirts, floppy hats, turbans, wide-leg pants, safari jackets, clogs, platforms, wedges, and big sunglasses. Yes, it may look costumey, but you never know until you try. Aki Barber agrees that “the seventies are making a comeback.”
